Role Overview

About the Role:

The pensions industry is going through one of its biggest periods of change in recent years, and this role will be right at the heart of it. As our Regulatory Pensions Lead, you'll help Nest understand, interpret and respond to changes across pension regulation and tax legislation, from Value for Money reporting and pensions tax reforms through to wider industry developments that shape how we serve our members. Working closely with teams across Operations, Proposition, Risk and Change, you'll turn complex regulatory requirements into practical solutions that keep us compliant while delivering great outcomes for millions of savers.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys being the trusted expert that people turn to for advice. You'll build strong relationships across the business and outsourced providers, and act as a key point of contact with organisations such as The Pensions Regulator and HMRC. We're looking for someone who combines deep pensions knowledge with a collaborative and diplomatic approach, someone who can influence, build trust and help others navigate change and implement regulation with confidence. Joining a small, highly specialist team, you'll have the opportunity to make a visible impact and play an important role in supporting Nest's long-term purpose of helping people achieve a better retirement.

Essential skills required for this role:

  • Deep expertise in occupational pensions legislation, regulation and industry guidance, with the confidence to provide clear, pragmatic advice on complex issues.
  • Strong knowledge of pensions tax legislation and HMRC requirements, including the ability to identify risks and implications for pension schemes.
  • Significant experience gained within a pension provider, master trust, consultancy, third-party administrator or other regulated pensions environment.
  • Proven ability to assess and interpret legislative, regulatory and policy change, translating complex requirements into practical business actions.
  • Experience building trusted relationships with regulators, senior leaders and business stakeholders, using influence and sound judgement to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex pensions and regulatory matters clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Internally this role is known as Regulatory Risk Manager

Directorate/Department Overview

About the Risk Directorate

The Risk Directorate is at the centre of some of Nest's most important strategic decisions. Our teams provide expert advice, independent oversight and regulatory insight that help the organisation navigate an increasingly complex and evolving landscape.

We work across every part of the business, partnering with colleagues to identify opportunities, manage risks and respond to regulatory change. Whether supporting major transformation programmes, advising on emerging legislation or strengthening relationships with regulators, the Directorate plays a key role in ensuring Nest continues to deliver excellent outcomes for its millions of members.

The Directorate is made up of three specialist teams. Our Risk function leads the development of Nest's risk management framework, provides oversight of key strategic and operational risks, and supports the organisation in embedding effective risk management practices. The Technical Risk team provides specialist expertise on areas such as information security, financial crime and technology. This role sits within the Regulatory Risk team, which delivers technical analysis and advice on pensions, pension tax and financial services legislation, regulation and regulatory change, and manages key regulatory and supervisory relationships to support the business in understanding and responding to a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape. The three teams work closely together to provide a comprehensive and joined-up approach to risk and regulatory oversight across Nest.
